Crystal Palace Progress Band
Incorporating the Crystal Palace Training Band and the Crystal Palace B Band

The Crystal Place Progress Band is the training and development section of the long established and successful Crystal Palace Brass Band.

Our purpose is simple - to enjoy making music in the Brass Band tradition and improve our playing and band skills at the same time. An ideal entry point for those inspired to try their hand having seen the BBC programme ‘A Band for Britain.’

Our membership of 20 plus players comes from all ages and abilities,

  • those learning brass instruments, ranging from primary school age to pensioners
  • those returning to play after a long gap
  • ‘Improvers’ seeking to develop their recreational playing
  • experienced players who don’t have the time to commit to the full programme of the main band
  • experienced band players helping to encourage the development of new players
We do not have auditions and welcome all who want to enjoy developing their skills. Whilst not giving instrument lessons, our players are informally guided and encouraged by the Band Trainer/Conductor and more experienced band members.

As they improve, players can move on to the main band or other ensembles, but many choose to stay and contribute to the band’s development.
We are a non contesting band playing under the direction of our new and enthusiastic music director, Chris Mackey.
We practice weekly at the Crystal Palace Museum for a full programme of concerts at local fairs etc.

We are particularly keen to develop links with local instrument teachers and to promote brass band playing in the younger age groups. To this end we have a child protection policy and appropriate CRB clearances.
